Flora's Flyer for the 4th of November 2016

Dear Parent/Carer

What’s happening at Flora’s?

A reminder that the photographer will be in school on Wednesday to take individual and sibling photographs.

It’s enrolment week for new entrants to Primary One in August 2017. The office will be particularly busy and we would appreciate it if you could avoid contacting the office at peak times this week. Thank you for your understanding.

A message from the Children’s Parliament.
We are currently working with children from Flora Stevenson’s and other schools in the City of Edinburgh to investigate bullying. Through the lens of children’s human rights the children are exploring what they need to be healthy, happy and safe at home, school and in the community. Each of the 8 schools host a team of six CP Investigators who meet with Children’s Parliament staff to explore children’s perspectives on what bullying is and how it effects each of us. The investigators ideas are being shared with the City of Edinburgh Council, helping to influence the Council’s understanding of bullying in schools. Find out how the CP Investigators are getting on at CP Investigates project blog

We now have an after school Lacrosse Club on Thursdays for P4 to P7 at BHS. Please contact Ms Yarrow P5 for further information

A note from the Chess Club:

Lunchtime Chess Lessons. Year groups: P3 and P4

When: Monday Lunchtime, Nov 7th – Dec 12th Cost: £25*

Beginners: We’ll take the children through how each piece moves in turn using fun videos and exercises on the whiteboard, and practice our skills by playing mini-games with just a few pieces. Slowly we’ll build up to playing a full game.

Our coach, Andrew Green, is passionate about teaching children to play chess and works in many Edinburgh primary schools as well as providing individual coaching for some of the best junior players in Scotland.

* The Parent Council have an Opportunities for All fund to make sure that the children don’t miss out on clubs and outings because of financial constraints. If you’d like to access this, for chess or any other activity, please contact Mrs Brennan in strictest confidence. Jenny Wilson floraschess@gmail.com
