Flora’s Flyer for Friday 13 May 2016

Dear Parent/Carer

We had two super assemblies today. One on Forces by Primary 3c who told us lots about gravity and P2b had amazing facts at their fingertips about everything to do with bees. Both classes presented confidently and their singing was great! Many thanks to our parents and carers who joined us and to Amelia for playing the piano so beautifully at the start. Also at assembly, Ben and Lewis told us about their visit to Granton Primary as Flora’s representatives on the Cluster Learning Council. They met with children from Granton, Stockbridge, Ferryhill and Broughton for their last meeting of this session. Many thanks to our P7 pupils who have previously taken on these roles.

The P2 classes enjoyed super trips to Butterfly World this week. P3 had an amazing day at Broughton High School on their ‘My Journey to Broughton’ Day on Wednesday. Huge thanks to Robert Ure for organising and running this Cluster event.

Our Football Teams are displaying excellent teamwork and have practised very hard indeed. The P7s played incredibly well last Wednesday at the semi-finals of the Inspectors Cup at a very cold and windy Meggetland and our P5/6 Team are playing this Wednesday in the School Board Cup semi-finals. Good luck to them all!

Chess News from Jenny Wilson:

We had six players from Flora's at the Megafinal last Sunday: Khaliq, Pavel, Flossie, Kasey, Caitlin and Rocco. Khaliq and Flossie qualified for the next stage of the competition, the Gigafinal in Manchester in July, and Flossie won her section (the Under 10's), received a trophy and was named Suprema.

Despite not qualifying for the next round, the rest of the Flora's players had some great games and some impressive results. In particular, Kasey won against the highest ranked player in his section. They all had a great attitude and conducted themselves well. Jenny.

We are delighted to hear that. Well done to all. We are incredibly proud of you all and wish Khaliq and Flossie all the very best for the Gigafinal.

There are a number of children in school with severe nut allergies. We would be very grateful if you could take this into consideration when you are sending in packed lunches and snacks for your own child. Chicken Satay in particular has a peanut dip. Many thanks indeed for your support and understanding.

My Head Teacher’s Awards this week were presented to:

P1 Lenka, Clyde, Asher, Jaskeerat, Thora, Emily and Olivia.

P2 Brooke, Tyrone, Rory, Noah, Bolu and Jessica

P3 Mohammed, Dylan and Kirsten

P4 Sophie and Mahima

P5 Karina, Regan and Kristina

P6 Harry and Connie

P7 Rahit, Emma, Snigdha, Ben and Logan

Well done, everyone!

The Parent Council are very busy preparing for our International Summer Fair on Saturday afternoon on 11th June. Look out for information through Parentmail to find out how you can support this event which is always great fun. Fingers crossed for a lovely sunny day!

Have a great weekend.

Best wishes
