Dear Parent or Carer
We hope you all had an enjoyable Easter Break. We were very excited to return to school to see our fantastic new library. Huge thanks to you all for fundraising for the library and to the After School Club and the many firms and businesses that contributed and supported us. Please look at our Twitter on @florasprimary to see some great photographs. We are looking forward to the results of our Readathon too!
The children are also enjoying using the new sandpit.
Mr Brocklehurst, our teacher in the nursery has been a great addition to Flora’s staff and we are very sorry to see him go. We wish him all the very best in his new post. We are very pleased to welcome Mrs Eleanor Dickson to Flora’s. Mrs Dickson will start with us shortly.
You will have seen in the media that a number of schools in Edinburgh have been closed this week due to construction issues. The Council is making contingency arrangements to allow these pupils to return to education as quickly as possible.
From Tuesday 19 April, we will provide support to pupils from Pirniehall Primary School. They will be joining us on a temporary basis and will be taught by their own class teachers. I am working closely with Mrs Ryan-Gillespie, Pirniehall’s Head Teacher on the arrangements for both of our schools.
I am sure you will join me in welcoming our visitors and support them during their time in our school. I will keep you updated.
Please look out for the Parentmail today outlining all the after school sports opportunities organised by Robert Ure, our Active Schools’ Co-ordinator.
Also this term’s class newsletters will be sent by Parentmail too.
This week’s Head Teacher Awards go to:
P1 Fred, Jack, Mariam, Lacey, Weronika, Bebe, Jia Jing and Olivia
P2 Aidan, Isla, Bavumile, Erin, Jayden and Olivia.
P3 Simeon, Wiktoria and Gurjoth

Many thanks to Esme for playing the piano so beautifully at Assembly.
Huge congratulations to Joel P4 for winning an Outstanding Award and Gold Medal for his violin solo in the Under 19, Grade 6 competition. A marvellous achievement!
Next week is our Eco Week and the Eco Committee have planned lots of exciting activities. The Eco Committee would like Flora’s to adopt an endangered species. Children are invited to come to school dressed as an animal next Friday for a donation of £1.
A reminder that Monday 18th is a local holiday and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Tuesday 19th April.
Best wishes
Irene Brennan
A note from our Parent Council
The Flora Stevenson Parent Council would like to gather feedback from parents and carers about how effective you think the Parent Council is and what you think the Parent Council should focus on for the next year.
We would really appreciate it if you could fill out the following online survey before 7th May 2016: http://1drv.ms/1phCzml
If you are unable to complete the survey online and would like a paper copy, please get in touch via email: florastevensonpc@yahoo.co.uk
The feedback you provide will be discussed at the next parent council meeting on 21st May and will be used to determine the projects, activities and roles that we will prioritize for the next 12 months. So if there is something that you want us to do differently, this is a great chance to let us know.
Thanks
Flora Stevenson Parent Council
