Wherever you see this symbol you can link straight to the Flyer
Dear Parent/ Carer

It was lovely to welcome so many Parents and Carers to our consultations with teaching staff this week. Thank you for supporting our Book Fair. The proceeds will go to providing new stock for our library. We are very excited that the transformation of the library is underway. Many thanks to parent, Lindsey Law for moving the books and to Mr MacInness for removing the shelves. Thank you also to the British Heart Foundation for all their support of our school. We enjoyed looking at many of the different ways that we can learn from old books at their stall in the hall during the Parent/Teacher Consultations..

Our best wishes go to Ms Hewlett who starts her maternity leave on Thursday. We are very pleased to welcome Ms Sulzberger to Flora’s to teach Primary 1c meantime.

Have you spotted our new stage in the playground yet? Thanks to Alan for building it and to Scottish Widows’ Staff who donated the funds from their ‘Dress Down Friday’ initiative and to Mrs Dobbie-Fraser who donated 10% of her Celebration Cake sales back in September. Thank you all!

We had great fun today dressing as our favourite character from a book. It was a joy to see at our assembly. Thank you to author Lari Don who came along to launch our Readathon. We were delighted when she gave us a sneak preview of her new trilogy out in the summer. Thanks are also due to Lari for signing lots of books. Many thanks to the Fundraising Group of the Parent Council for all their hard work organising this event and for the fabulous Bake Sale today too.

Thanks are also due to the parents and carers of our nursery classes for their Bake Sale in aid of Sport Relief. The nursery classes had a really fun day with lots of exercises and super healthy snacks to support Sport Relief.

Huge thanks to you all.

We are absolutely delighted with the £8000 awarded to the Playground Fund to build our Rainforest Hut from the Tesco Bags of Help Scheme. Thank you to everyone who voted for us. Many thanks to parent, Judy Clarke for entering the competition. Thanks are also due to Judy for painting our giant chalkboard. It has been a great success and very well used this week. Mrs Smith even had her groups using it to help them learn their spelling words.

A message from Niall Shannon (Dr Bike)

Following our Dr Bike event on Tuesday 15th we will be having a ‘Bike Breakfast’ in school to encourage pupils to cycle in to school that day (on their newly fixed bikes!). On Wednesday the 23rd March we will hold an Active Travel Breakfast. Simply walk, cycle or scoot your way to school and get a free breakfast when you arrive. Even walking some of the way to school counts! Arrive at 8:15 for a healthy and fun start to the day!

Please see recent Parentmail for further details and to let us know if you will join us for breakfast. Thank you.

We hope you can make it along to the Parent Council Meeting on Monday 21st at 7pm in the Music School.

The After School Club AGM is on Wednesday 23rd at 6pm.

Health and Wellbeing

We've had a number of pupils who have been sent home feeling unwell this week in school. This helpful information from the NHS Livewell website should help you to decide whether or not it is appropriate to send your child to school following a bout of illness.

http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Yourchildatschool/Pages/Illness.aspx

Sickness and diarrhoea can be infectious. The guidelines state that children should be symptom free of either for 48 hours before returning to school. To help us keep everyone healthy - please stick to these recommendations remembering to let the school or Nursery know each day your child is absent for our records.

As the Easter holidays approach, it may be a good time to check your child's hair for head lice. We are a big school and outbreaks do occur from time to time. Checking and treating regularly helps to keep things under control.

Health and Safety

Please remember that all pupils should arrive at school in appropriate school footwear; with a pair of plimsolls to wear in the Gym Hall.

Shoes with wheels in the heel are not appropriate school footwear and therefore should be left at home.

Thank you for sending your child to school wearing our school uniform. I would like to remind you that jeans and football colours should not be worn to school? If you have any difficulty supporting our uniform policy, please telephone the school office to make an appointment to speak to me. Thank you.

Joel will also perform a violin solo at the Resonate Concert at the Queen’s Hall on Tuesday.

Congratulations to:

· our Cross-Country Runners who performed very well indeed at the competition last Monday. Great running everyone!

· our netball players who participated in a fun tournament and won. Super playing girls!

· Our gymnasts from P1 to P7 who were wonderful in the Broughton High School Gymnastic Showcase last Wednesday (so disappointed to miss it as it was at the same time as our Parent/Teacher Consultations). Very special congratulations to Fearn, P3 for scooping the ‘Best Performance Award.’

A reminder that we go on holiday on Thursday 24th March at the usual times (not a half-day) and return on Monday 11 April. The following Monday, 18th April is a public holiday and the school will be closed.
