Dear Parent/Carer
Another busy week at Flora’s and we are delighted to see the playground developments really take shape! The woodchip arrived in two huge lorry loads and the ‘heart’ of the playground is emerging behind the Heras fence!
A fault in our Fire Alarm unit meant an unscheduled fire drill on Friday and everyone lined up amazingly quickly at the back of the school while we waited for the Fire Brigade to check and give us the all clear. Well done all! It did, however, highlight the parking in front of the school again. Please keep the gates and road clear for emergency vehicles, use the carpark in Waitrose (we have their permission) and ensure the safety of all. Thank you. Parents/Carers and visitors who are already in school when a fire drill takes place, should also assemble in the back playground. Otherwise please do not enter the school premises but remain outside until the all clear is given. Thank you.
This week, Primaries 4, 5 and 6 enjoyed a visit to the Book Festival, four Primary7 pupils joined their peers from our Cluster schools for a Co-operative Pupil Learning Council at Stockbridge Primary and Primary 7 harvested their vegetables in the Botanic Gardens. Three of our pupils took part in a photo shoot on Calton Hill this week. They will be the faces of the Scottish Book Trust this year. Staff were also very busy meeting Cluster colleagues for a joint session on numeracy at Ferryhill Primary. We were also busy engaging in workshops on the use of ipads in school from Apple Learning.
We are delighted to welcome Mrs Rachel Tsai from St George’s School to Flora’s every Tuesday to teach Mandarin to Primary 6.
Primary 7 are very excited indeed about their trip to Dalguise Outdoor Centre on Monday for five days of wonderful activities. Have a great time!
Have you remembered that our Parent Council AGM is on Monday evening, 7pm to 9pm? We look forward to seeing you then.
We also look forward to meeting our Primary 1 parents/carers on Tuesday evening at 6.30pm to share our teaching and learning plans for the year with you.
Parents/carers from Primaries 2 to 7 are warmly invited to attend one of two sessions held on the following Tuesday 15 September at 6pm and 6.30pm to share our teaching and learning plans for these classes with you. Please return the slip to let us know if you are able to attend. Many thanks.
Monday 21st September is a holiday.
We are delighted to welcome Mrs Cally Fraser as our Acting DHT to join us on Tuesday 22nd September.
Our Junior Road Safety Officers are attending a Road Safety Event on Thursday and will return with lots of ideas and activities to promote road safety in our school.
The Road Safety Group comprising of staff and parents is also meeting this week to start updating the School Travel Plan.
What a super start to the year. With children working so hard, the staff have the difficult task each week of choosing children to receive a Head Teacher’s Award at our Friday assemblies and attend the special Head Teacher’s Tea party!
This week’s Head Teacher’s Award certificates went to:
P1 Ben, Arianna, Charlotte, Sameer, Thora, Sinam, Vincent and Isabella
P2 Amala, Isla, Noah, Arisha, Eve, Arturo, Ellie and Archie
P3 Zoe, Darshan and Eliza
P4 Nabiha, Harrison and Archie
P5 Kristina, Matthew and Eilidh
P6 Hannah and Finn
P7 Isabella, Callum and Fraser
We had a lovely time at the tea party! Well done to you all!
With very best wishes
Irene Brennan
