The Flyer 21/11/2017

Dear Parent/Carer

Lots of things to be proud of this week!

Five of our Primary 7s, supported by Mrs Smith, attended the National Young Mathematician Award and we are thrilled to announce that they are through to the next round! Staff from Broughton High have been giving them hints, tips and strategies and we wish them the very best of luck.

Our chess team also had success! The P6/7 team came 3rd out of 23 teams and we also had 2 teams (10 plays in total)  in the P5 and under section. They were both very inexperienced teams but all enjoyed the challenge, trying their best for the whole day against some tough competition. They showed great team spirt and were a credit to Flora’s.

Mr Baxter and 3 of our Primary 6 pupils attended an event at the Scottish Parliament as part of Financial Capability Week. The event included speakers from Money Advice Scotland, Money Advice Service, Shelter Scotland, Young Scot, RBS and The Flora Stevenson Primary School!

Sidar one of our Primary 7s came 1st and 3rd at a swimming event. He will be representing himself and Flora’s at a Scottish Schools’ event in East Kilbride!

Six of our Primary 7 Community Ambassadors are representing our school at an event organised by the Children’s Parliament!  John Swinney and The Children’s Commissioner attended and they will be working on a vision of a healthier, happier and safer world for children.

And members of our local Scout group and families from Flora’s helped to tidy our playground. We swept leaves, sand and bark, painted benches, trim trails and plant holders, and had a tasty snack to replace all that lost energy! A huge thank you to everyone who took part.

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

We are a large school and St Stephen’s Comely Bank can’t accommodate all classes for our church service and although all parents are welcome to attend, we would love to invite our P2 and P3 parents to join us for our first ever Carols on the Balconies at 11.30am on Friday 22nd.

We appreciate all items of school clothing being named and, since the weather is due to be wet this week, we would ask that children come to school in waterproof coats. If they weather is particularly dismal, children will be allowed to come in to school at 8.40am. P1 go straight to their building, P2-6 enter by the office and HT doors and P7 enter through the dining hall.

Ms McGhee and everyone at Flora’s!
