Dear Parent/Carer
Doesn’t time fly! Here we are at the end of the academic year 2015/16 and it is time to wish our Primary 7 learners all the very best as they move onto High School. Some will have attended Flora’s Nursery and the School for nine years and others for a shorter time. All have added greatly to the ethos of the school making Flora’s a great place to be. The same is true of all our leavers from the nursery and throughout the school who are moving to new schools and to our staff members who are moving on. An exciting time for all our leavers and we all send our very best wishes for the future.

We are sorry to say goodbye to several members of staff. Miss Reeves is moving to Prestonfield Primary School to continue her career in a Nursery Teacher post. Miss Reeves has worked at Flora’s for five years and we wish her well in her new post. We also send our good luck wishes to Mr Henderson and Miss Mesquita who will be leaving us at the end of the session to take up positions overseas. Mr Henderson will be taking a career break to teach in a Spanish school and Miss Mesquita will be moving to Seattle to further her education with a Masters’ Degree.
Well done to Miss Blair and Miss Graham as they move to permanent employment in Edinburgh following their Probationary year. Good luck to Miss Renwick who is leaving us to go travelling. Many thanks to them all for all their hard work and commitment during their time at Flora’s.
Very best wishes also to Miss Phoebe Cash, our most recent Modern Apprentice in the Nursery who graduated this session. It has been a pleasure working with our three Modern Apprentices for various blocks of time over the last two years and we wish them all well. Finally a good luck to Nicole Carlin who is off to study Primary Teaching at University?
We have recently appointed Miss Kirsten Aitken to our P1 team and Miss Toni Ramsay to P6. Miss Aitken joins us from Midlothian Council. Miss Ramsay joins us from Craiglockhart Primary. I am sure pupils and parents will join our staff in giving all new staff members a warm welcome.
As in previous years, we have three new probationer teachers next session. A warm welcome to Miss Mainnie, Miss Macpherson and Miss Watts. Our probationer teachers will be supported by the Leadership Team throughout the year.
We are also very pleased to welcome back Mrs O’Donnell, who will be working in P7 this year with Mrs Kearsley.
Flora’s is a place where everyone works together and supports the learning and I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all members of the Flora’s Community for all you do. Your hard work, support and commitment are greatly appreciated. Thank you to all our dedicated staff, parents and carers and to the Parent Council which is an integral part of our school. The parent voice and the tremendous support have enhanced the experiences of our learners. The children now enjoy an amazing outdoor space, wider access to ipads and a fabulous new library thanks to support from the parents and the local community.
I hope you have a very enjoyable summer. School closes at 12 noon on Thursday 30th June and the Nursery at 3.30pm. We look forward to welcoming the children back on Wednesday 17th August.
Best wishes
