Flora’s Flyer for Friday 4 March 2016

Dear Parent/Carer

What a very busy week at Flora’s this week.

On Monday,we welcomed Parents/Carers of Bi-lingual children in the Nursery to two coffee and chat sessions to discuss language acquisition.

On Tuesday, the work started on our new planters to grow vegetables and herbs. They look fantastic! Thank you to Alan, the joiner and the Parent Council for arranging and funding this great addition to our Health and Wellbeing curriculum.

On Wednesday, Ms Broadley travelled through to Glasgow with the Book Club members to find out the winning authors of the Scottish Book Trust Competition.

Sophie in P7 won second place for her book Review and Joe, P7 was recorded reading his comments on David Walliams Book, ‘Gangsta Granny.’ David Walliams sent a tweet to tell Joe that he liked his review. Well done to all! Look on our Twitter @florasprimary to find out more!

We enjoy dressing up as our favourite character from a book and invite children to join in this year on Friday 18 March when we launch our Readathon fundraiser for the playground at assembly. More information to follow.

Pupil Learning Council.

We regularly meet with pupils from our cluster primaries and Broughton High School to share our learning. It was our turn to host the Pupil Learning Council this term. Mr Rae organised a fun competition in our playground for our visitors.

We enjoyed a wonderful assembly on Thursday for World Book Day. Ms Broadley shared her love of reading and her favourite books and then each class shared their favourite book and made wonderful posters.

We were successful in our bids for funding from Sustrans and the North Neighbourhood Partnership and our new bike racks and scooter racks were installed on Thursday. Many thanks indeed to all. The Junior Road Safety Officers have arranged a visit from ‘Dr Bike.’ If you bring your bike to school on Tuesday 15 March, he will examine it and fix any problems. The JRSOs are also organising a free breakfast for anyone cycling to school on Wednesday 23 March.

We were delighted to meet some of the Pupil Councillors from St John’s Primary who wanted to see our playground for ideas for their own playground development. They also liked the hills! Thanks to our Pupil Councillors from P4 and P5 for showing them around.

This morning, we were delighted by P7c’s great assembly on WW2. We heard all about children who were evacuated to the countryside and rationing. The ‘Boogie Woogie’ song at the end had us all desperate to join in with the jiving! Well done P7c! Great to see so many parents/carers who were able to join us.

Parent- Teacher Consultations.

We look forward to meeting parents and carers for individual appointments with teaching staff on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th March. Appointment times are the same as your last appointment in October and reminder slips were sent home this week.

The Book Fair will also be available during these consultation times. A great opportunity to buy books for our Readathon event.

IMPORTANT. Please ensure school records are kept up-to-date at all times and that we have at least TWO contact numbers on file for your child. This is very important should we need to contact you throughout the day. If you need to update anything please either email the school or come into the school office to complete a form. Thank you

This week’s Head Teacher awards go to:

P3 Sugar, Lauryn and Kirsten

P4 Niamh, Lewis and Milla

P5 Daniel, Ruth and Shane

P6 Joshua and Livia

P7 Tanish, Tarun and Kyle

Many thanks to Arjun for playing the piano so beautifully at assembly.

Finally, please remember to vote for Flora’s Rainforest Hut when shopping in Tesco’s this weekend.

Ask your family, friends and neighbours too, please.

Have a lovely weekend and I hope all mothers are spoilt on Sunday!

Best wishes
