Flora's Flyer 20th November 2015

Dear Parent/Carer

Mrs Claire Dixon, our administrator has secured a post at Ratho Primary School. We are very sorry indeed to see her go. We wish her well in her new post and send our thanks for all her hard work and commitment to the school.

We look forward to seeing you at our next Parent Council Meeting on Monday 23rd November at 7pm in the Music School. All welcome!

This year, our Christmas Assembly will once again be held in St Stephen’s Church in order to accommodate parents/carers as well as children. It was a tight squeeze last year, therefore we have decided to have only P3 to P7 children. P1 and P2 have separate Nativities for parents/carers.

The Nativity dates are:

Tuesday 15 December at1.30pm for Primary 2.

Thursday 17 December at 1.30 for Primary 1.

Tickets for two seats per child will be allocated nearer the time.

The Nursery Classes will hold their Nativity performances on Tuesday 15th for the Ladybird classes and Wednesday 16th December for the Butterfly Classes.

Great News! We're running a Scholastic Book Club to earn free books for our school. Go online now and check out the great bargains for Christmas stockings! Please place your order online at http://schools.scholastic.co.uk/flora-stevenson by December 9th, 2015.

Head Teacher’s Awards this week go to

No assembly this week for P1 and P2.

P3 Isabel, Mohammed, Max and Olivia

P4 Heather, Keith and Emily

P5 Sebastian, Kyla, Marley and Paulie

P6 Katie and Elian

P7 Sophie, Rojin and Jake

Thanks to Andy, Ebba and Jess for playing the piano at assembly.

Wider achievement

P7A took part in the Edinburgh contest on Sumdog this week and came 2nd out of all the schools in Edinburgh. 23 children in the class took part and answered an average of 572 questions correctly!

We are absolutely thrilled by their achievement! Well done indeed, P7a!

Good luck to several children who are performing at the ‘Gang Show’ this weekend at the King’s Theatre.

Our swimming team excelled themselves at the Edinburgh and Midlothian Swimming Championships.  Yasmin Ali, Millie Milne, Rose Penman and Ruaraidh Bain all swum personal bests.  Yasmin also came third in the breaststroke so will be put forward for consideration for Scottish schools.

Well done to Florence in P5 for winning a Junior Congress Chess Tournament in the under 300 grading, scoring 6 out of 7. A fantastic achievement!

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes

Irene Brennan
