Flora’s Flyer for 24th February 2017

Flora Stevenson

Dear Parent/Carer
We had a wonderful assembly from P3b all about Miss Flora Clift Stevenson this morning which linked in beautifully with our values. Flora Stevenson was the first female to sit on the Edinburgh School Board and was Chairwoman from 1900 until her death in 1905. She strongly promoted equal education for both boys and girls. We are very proud indeed to have our school named after her.

Alison Kennedy
We had a super author visit today from Alison Kennedy, an established author who is now promoting her first novel for children, “Uncle Shawn and Bill.” She read extracts from her book with children from P5 and answered questions about the book and her writing. The event was filmed by STV for their magazine style programme ‘Live at Five’.

Lari Don
World Book Day is on Thursday 2nd March. We would be very pleased to see everyone dressed as a character from their favourite book. We are also delighted to welcome author Lari Don to launch her new book on Thursday. Primary 5 pupils will be able to purchase signed copies after the event for £6.99.
We look forward to meeting with parents/carers on Monday evening for our Parent Information Evening on Internet Safety. 6.30 pm to 7.30pm in the Music Room. Many thanks to PC Iain Collins.
You may remember that before Christmas, P6 delighted us with their productions of ‘Oliver with a Twist.’ Maya and Sam then auditioned along with a number of children from P6 and successfully secured parts in the Oliver Twist play that will be shown at the Edinburgh festival this summer.  Huge congratulations to them both!

This week’s Head Teacher Awards were presented to:
P1   Viraj, Patti Mae, Lucy, Max, Aliaskar, Leonie, Theo and Sean
P2   Irtaza, Calum, Saif, Agnes, Harriet and Emily
P3   Maizy, Erin and Alice
P4   Finn, Zahara and Kirsten
P5   Heather, Anna and Isaac
P6   Daniel, Blake, Daisy and Zac
P7 Amy and Arnav
Many thanks to Hailun who played an amazing piece on the piano today.
Enjoy your weekend!
Best wishes
Irene Brennan
